How Your RefScore is Calculated

Full transparency on our methodology. You deserve to understand how we assess your professional profile.

What is RefScore?

RefScore is a multi-source behavioural assessment based on verified references. It measures HOW you work, not WHAT you produce.

Unlike traditional performance reviews, RefScore aggregates observations from multiple people who have worked with you — supervisors, colleagues, clients, and mentors.

Your RefScore belongs to you. You control who can see it and how it is shared.

Here's what a RefScore looks like

Sample data for illustration purposes

What Does RefScore Measure?

RefScore evaluates 21 work styles grouped into 6 factors. Each factor captures a different aspect of how you work.

Conscientiousness

Reliability, attention to detail, meeting commitments and deadlines.

Teamwork

Cooperation, empathy, supporting colleagues, and team spirit.

Adaptability

Flexibility, stress tolerance, openness to change.

Communication

Clarity, active listening, constructive feedback reception.

Initiative

Proactivity, problem-solving, self-direction in work.

Integrity

Honesty, ethical behaviour, taking accountability.

What RefScore Does NOT Measure

  • Intelligence or IQ
  • Technical skills or qualifications
  • Personality traits (this is not a personality test)
  • Cultural fit (too subjective)
  • Performance outcomes (not results-based)

How is Your Score Calculated?

A transparent 5-step process, from your references to your final score.

1

You invite your references

You choose people who have worked with you — supervisors, colleagues, clients, mentors.

2

Your references complete a confidential questionnaire

Each reference rates observable behaviours on a 1-5 scale. Their responses remain anonymous.

3

Responses are aggregated

We combine observations from all your references to get a complete picture.

4

The score is normalised

Your score is converted to a T-score for fair comparison with the reference population.

5

Confidence increases with references

The more references you have, the more reliable and accurate your score becomes.

Understanding the T-score

The T-score is a standardised measure where the average is 50 and most people score between 40 and 60. A score of 60 means you are in the top 16% for that factor.

How Can I Improve My Score?

Invite more references

The more references you have, the more reliable your score. Aim for at least 5 references for optimal results.

Diversify your reference types

Include supervisors, colleagues, clients, and mentors for a complete view of your profile.

Choose people who know you well

Longer working relationships allow for more accurate observations.

Include recent colleagues

Your current behaviours matter — recent references reflect how you work today.

Focus on consistency

RefScore reflects behavioural patterns. Consistent professional behaviour is key.
